Tour description
This tour follows the traces that are left by famous artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in the southern part of Mexico City. We see their art, the way they lived, where they used to eat and which heritage they left us.
Coyoacán still conserves its colonial architecture from the time when it was just a quiet village outside Mexico City, 100 years ago. After a ride in a typical tram from the 1950s to discover its secrets, we visit the Blue House of Frida Kahlo and the Twin Studio that Diego had designed by a friend.
In Xochimilco, we see the best art collection of them in the Dolores Olmedo museum, before taking a "trajinera" boatride along the 180km of canals that are the remains of hundreds of years of dredging mud onto floating carpets of branches.
Back on firm land, we visit a traditional pulquería, where pulque, the aphrodisiac "drink of the gods" from the fermented maguey cactus juice, is served as they did hundreds of years ago. On request, we can visit a traditional farmers cooperative or a horse stable (count one hour extra).
Lunch is taken at a typical market.
The tour does include guide services, transportation, lunch and entrance fees, but does not include the tram and the boat ride (total cost about 100 USD).
