Tour description
This tour visits the most interesting witnesses of the rich past of Morelos state, both from the colonial, the prehispanic and the prehistoric era.
After crossing the 3000+ meter volcanic range south of Mexico City we plunge into the lush valley of Tepoztlán, magical town with an exceptional Dominican monastery that has been declared UNESCO heritage.
Xochicalco was an important fortified city in the times that Teotihuacan fell into decay. Here, priests (from all over today Mexico) gathered to adjust calendars and develop the cult of Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent god. The temple dedicated to him, as well as the site museum, are highlights.
Even further back into the past, you face underground formations that were formed during millions of years and that take your breath away. The caves of Cacahuamilpa contain giant rooms up to 70 meters high: cathedrals of nature!
Alternatively, you can choose to visit the former silving mining town Taxco and its jewelry shops (instead of the caves). The cobblestoned streets, the fantastic church of Santa Prisca and cute houses hanging from the mountain slopes are unforgettable.
The tour includes transportation, lunch and entrance fees to museums and the archeological site.
