We drive through the province of Extremadura to Óbidos, known as "Village of Queens." Piktoresk entirely surrounded by walls and very well preserved. Here we start an extensive orientation tour. Here, the guests are invited to the famous cherry liqueur "Ginginha taste" too. Some free time.
Óbidos is located near the magnificent coastal scenery of Peniche.
Peniche is a small fishing town with about 30,000 inhabitants, where the fishing industry is a very important activity. A lot of restaurants are specialized in fish and seafood.
Strange rock formations at the "Cabo Carvoeiro" can be admired. Short photo stop.
Along the way we enjoy this magnificent coastal scenery.
Our journey takes us north through the hilly landscape of the west coast until we reach the Lisbon Mafra.
Mafra Convent has inspired a number of Portuguese writers, etc. our Nobel Prize for Literature (1998) José Saramago, the book "The Memorial".
Visit the imposing Mafra convent. Mafra is the largest Baroque building in Portugal and larger than the Escorial, near Madrid, with 4700 windows and doors, a carillon with 114 bells. Remembrance of the golden age of Portugal, from the german architect Johann Friedrich Ludwig and built under King John V.
Now we deserve a little break. In addition to the complex there is an interesting park / wooded grounds with an old water wheel where guests can take a leisurely walk or taste in the numerous cafes opposite "Pastelarias" the old traditional convent sweets.
We leave Mafra and drive to Sintra, a romantic spot, a jewel of vegetation close to Lisbon. Lord Byron´s Gloriuos Eden.
