Naxi Settlement of Lijiang

The ancient town of Lijiang developed from a largely Naxi settlement established in Dayan during the Southern Song Dynasty, some eight centuries ago. In December 1986, the State Council designated Lijiang as a national-level site of historical and cultural importance. Naxi people respect nature and culture, so the Naxi residential houses have distinctive architectural characteristics.
