Fuxian Lake is know for its unique fauna, including many endemic species. However, its relative isolation makes it vulnerable to biological invasions and pollution.[1][2]

Tor yunnanensis is a cyprinid fish that is only found in Fuxian Lake. It may already be extinct because of introduction of exotic species of fish, water pollution, and overfishing.[3] Similarly, Anabarilius grahami, another endemic cyprinid, may be facing extinction because of an introduced fish.[2]

A fungus Dyrithiopsis lakefuxianensis growing on submerged wood has been collected and described as a new species to science from Fuxian Lake, as suggested by its scientific
name.
